The 1-Day Anti Aging Diet

Lack of sunshine, indulging in sweets during the holidays, cold, harsh winter temperatures and let’s not forget indoor heating – the worst for drying up skin! All of these combined together can take a toll on our delicate skin and add years to it. That’s when eating a diet rich in nutrients and vitamins can really help transform your skin from dull to luminous. Eating right is the key to looking and feeling young!

Here is an easy 1-day menu that will rejuvenate your skin and make you feel like a million bucks!

Breakfast: Beauty Fruit Smoothie

This smoothie is packed with fruits known to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Kiwi, strawberries, blueberries and pineapple are packed with vitamin C, which maintain collagen production and reduce skin damage. Bananas have vitamin B6, which help your skin keep its elasticity, and flaxseed can reduce puffiness with its anti inflammatory properties. Drink this everyday for a month and I guarantee your skin will look and feel smoother! GET THE RECIPE

Mid morning snack: 10 cashew nuts

Reduce premature grey hairs by eating a few cashew nuts daily! These nuts are full of copper which helps the production of melanin, a complex that gives hair its color. Cashew nuts can be quite expensive ($6 for an 8oz container in Brooklyn) but you can get them cheaper by buying them in bulk. Online stores like Amazon offer competitive prices.

Lunch: Loaded Baked Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are very high in vitamin A – a potent antioxidant that helps neutralize the damaging effects of oxidation caused by free radicals. They also contain carotenoids which also act as an antioxidant and protect the skin against sun damage. GET THE RECIPE

Mid Afternoon Snack: 8oz Yogurt

The anti aging effects of yogurt aren’t seen on the skin surface but rather from the inside. Yogurt is rich in calcium, which strengthens bones and contains “good bacteria” such as Lactobacillus Bulgaricus and Streptococcus Thermophilus. These bacteria help maintain gut health, digestion and also diminish the incidence of age-related intestinal illness. My favorite brands are Siggi’s and Chobani for their thick, Greek yogurt texture and different types of flavors. Chobani has a banana and dark chocolate flavor which satisfies my sweet cravings!

Dinner: Black Bean Glazed Salmon with Green Beans

Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is the perfect ally for the fight against anti aging! These fats keep the skin moist and supple, while the carotenoids protect against UV rays and strengthen skin cells. GET THE RECIPE

Evening Snack: Grapes and Hot Green Tea

Green tea is a magical health potion – not only can it delay signs of skin aging, such as sun damage, expression lines and wrinkles, it’s also a great tool for weight loss! According to several recent studies, drinking a cup a day can take off as much as 7 pounds in a year!

The resveratrol found in red grapes aid in breaking down fat cells as well as reduce the ability to store fat. The antioxidants fight off wrinkles, boosts proper blood circulation, thus leading to glowing and younger-looking skin.
